Nuun Sport Review

Low sodium and low sugar in a fizz-free stick — the gentlest option here, and the one to reach for when a full dose is more than you need.

The verdict

Buy it if

Shorter workouts, warm days that are not brutal, and anyone who wants a light flavour and a full five-mineral spread without a big sodium dose.

Skip it if

You are a heavy or salty sweater — you would need three sticks to match one LMNT. If you are drug-tested, Thorne Daily Electrolytes carries NSF Certified for Sport; these powder sticks do not carry a confirmed certification.

What's good

  • All five electrolytes — sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and chloride — in one stick
  • Only 1 g of sugar and 10 calories
  • Dissolves instantly — no waiting for a tablet to break down
  • Single-serve sticks are easier to carry than a tube and do not crumble

What's not

  • At 300 mg, the lowest sodium of any sports-positioned product in this list
  • The powder is NOT confirmed as Informed Choice certified — that applies to Nuun’s tablets
  • Sticks generate more packaging waste than a refillable tube
  • Costs more per serving than the equivalent tablets

Which Nuun you buy decides whether it is certified

This is the single most misreported thing about Nuun, and it matters if you are tested. Nuun Sport TABLETS are Informed Choice certified. The separate Podium range — Endurance, Prime and Recover — carries the stricter Informed Sport mark. We could not confirm that either certification extends to these powder stick packs, so we do not claim it for them.

That is not a criticism of the powder; it is a caution about assuming a brand-level badge covers every product a brand sells. Certifying one line and letting the halo spread across the range is common across the whole supplement industry. If you are subject to anti-doping testing, buy the tablets rather than the powder, or choose a product whose certification is stated on the listing itself.

The lowest sodium of any sports-positioned product here

At 300 mg per tablet, Nuun Sport carries less sodium than anything else in this list that is marketed for exercise. You would need three tablets to match a single LMNT stick.

That is not automatically a flaw — for a 45-minute session, or for someone who does not sweat heavily, 300 mg is a reasonable top-up rather than an under-dose. But it does mean the product is mismatched to the athletic imagery the whole category uses. Judge it as a light top-up, not a sweat-replacement drink.

Fizz-free, and that is the point

Nuun built its name on effervescent tablets, and the powder sticks exist because plenty of people did not want the fizz or the wait. A stick dissolves immediately, tastes flatter, and is easier to add to a bottle you are already carrying.

The trade-offs are cost per serving and packaging: a tube of tablets is cheaper and produces far less waste than the same number of single-use sticks.

Nuun Sport questions

Are the Nuun Sport powder sticks certified?

We could not confirm it. Nuun’s TABLETS are Informed Choice certified and the separate Podium line is Informed Sport, but we found no statement extending either to the powder sticks — so we do not claim it. If certification is the reason you are buying, choose the tablets or Thorne Daily Electrolytes, whose NSF Certified for Sport status is stated on the listing.

Is 300 mg of sodium enough?

For a short or low-sweat session, probably. For a long effort in heat, no — you would need multiple sticks. Heavy or salty sweaters are better served by LMNT or Redmond Re-Lyte.

Do the powder sticks taste different from the tablets?

Most people describe the powder as flatter and slightly less sharp, because there is no effervescence. The mineral content is near-identical — 300 mg sodium, 150 mg potassium, 25 mg magnesium in both — so it is a texture and convenience choice rather than a formulation one.
